Being part of our Stingrays Swim Team can offer many benefits. If your child hasn’t been on our swim team before and is interested in joining, here is how you can assess if they are ready.
Swim Team is Different than Swim Lessons
Our swim lessons give swimmers individual, focused attention. In lessons, instructors focus solely on their swimmer and show them how to change their technique to learn a skill better. They are right at their side during the lesson.
Swim Team consists of 12 swimmers and 2 coaches. Coaches are out of the water, watching swimmer’s techniques. Multiple swimmers will be swimming at once, so it is important that children on swim team can already swim the minimum requirements and have enough endurance to be in the water safely on their own.
Intermediate Swim Team
Swimmers who want to register into our intermediate swim team must already be able to swim freestyle and backstroke proficiently. Our swim team coaches will work on perfecting their technique in these strokes and building up endurance. They will also be introduced to the butterfly and breaststroke as well as flip turns.
If you are currently in lessons with us and your child is at a Sea Otter or Dolphin level, then the Intermediate Swim Team might be a great fit for them.
Advanced Swim Team
Swimmers who want to register into our advanced swim team must already be proficient in all four strokes: freestyle, back, butterfly and breaststroke. Our swim team coaches will work with the advanced swim team to refine all four stroke techniques, work on individual medley, and starts and turns.
If you are currently in lessons with us and your child is at a Great White or Killer Whale level, then they might excel in our Advanced Swim Team.
What Else?
In addition to meeting the minimum level or stroke requirements needed for each swim team, children wanting to join swim team should be committed to working hard, good at following instructions and excited to swim and have fun!
