At Sea Otter, we are especially proud of our adaptive swim program–The Aqua Stars, which provides high-quality swim lessons to children and adults with special needs.
We focused on six types of special needs when we developed this program:
- Down Syndrome
- Cerebral Palsy
- Sensory Disorders
- Visual Impairment
- Spina Bifida
Our adaptive program includes one-on-one instruction with a specially trained instructor, an initial out-of-water assessment, and an individualized lesson plan designed to fit each swimmer’s personal goals and needs.
These goals vary with each individual. Some parents want to teach their children water safety skills. Some want to make showers less stressful. Others want to help their child build muscle tone, and some are preparing for participation in the Special Olympics.
There are a number of benefits swim lessons can provide individuals with special needs, including social, physical, and emotional.
Whatever your goals are for you or your swimmer, we will work with you to create a unique plan to help you and your child be successful! Our goal is to help each swimmer push past their physical, cognitive, or neurological challenges to be successful in learning to swim, learning water safety, developing confidence, increasing fitness, and having fun!
