We have 8 swim levels within our program:

  • Frog
  • Crab
  • Fish
  • Piranha
  • Sea Otter
  • Dolphin
  • Great White
  • Killer Whale

New swimmers are placed into a level upon registering, based on their ability and comfort in the water. Their swim instructor will then see their level and be able to assess them during their first lesson.

During their first lesson, the swim instructor will confirm their level placement and begin to work with them on the skills within that level.

Each level is made up of five skills. For example, swimmers who are placed into a Crab level will be working on the X Float, kicking with aids (such as a kick board), beginning to back float, assisted rollover rockets, and jumping in the water and returning to the wall with assistance.

Once a swimmer successfully performs a skill in three consecutive lessons, they master that skill. So once your swimmer can back float correctly three lessons in a row, they will have mastered that skill. After they have mastered all five skills within their level, they pass that level and move onto the next. The crab will become a fish!

See all of the levels and skills here.

Each time your swimmer masters a skill or passes a level, you will receive an email announcing the new skill they attained or the level they passed. They will also get a ribbon from their teacher showing the level they passed. It is a great way to see your swimmer make progress through our program!

If you aren’t receiving these emails, check with us in the office to make sure we have your correct email on file. You can stop by at lessons, give us a call, or email us at seaotterswim2@gmail.com. You can also check your spam folder to make sure the emails aren’t being sent there.

Once your swimmer gets to the Sea Otter level and above, they can think about trying out for our non-competitive swim team, which we offer in the Fall.

If you have any questions about your child’s progress, feel free to talk with their instructor at lessons or stop by the office.
