Swim Instructor



Swim instructors are responsible for providing high-quality swim lessons and instruction to swimmers of all ages using the Sea Otter Swim Lessons program.

Examples of Duties (including but not limited to):

  • Evaluate and assess skill level and needs of each student
  • Teach high-quality swim lessons
  • Communicate professionally with parents and staff members
  • Assist with cleanliness of pool area
  • Follow and ensure safety and emergency rules and procedures are followed at all times
  • Maintain a positive, friendly, professional demeanor through all interactions with children, parents, families, and staff members
  • Contribute as a member of the team toward improving the healthy lifestyles of our swimmers
  • Other duties as required


  • Ability to display a professional, friendly, courteous, respectful, and highly-motivated workplace attitude
  • Ability to provide quality swim lessons to students of all ages using the Sea Otter Swim Lessons program
  • Ability to communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and coworkers
  • Ability to effectively manage time
  • Ability to remain calm and positive during experiences with scared or unhappy swimmers


  • High school diploma or equivalent (desirable, not required)
  • Previous experience working with children (desirable, not required)
  • Previous swim experience (desirable, not required)
  • Experience teaching swim lessons or working in a swim environment (desirable, not required)
  • CPR and First Aid certification (required, must be obtained within 60 days of hire)


  • Work is generally carried out in a covered swimming pool (approx. 92 degrees water temperature)
  • Frequently swim, sit, stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch in and out of water
  • Frequently push, pull, grasp, and carry
  • Frequently walk on wet outdoor cement, which may be slippery
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds

Location and Hours

  • Monday: 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm
  • Tuesday–Friday: 9:00 am to 8:00 pm
  • Saturday: 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
  • Closed Sunday
